v0.7-beta (released)

Hey everyone!

Our team is growing and you will see an increase in how fast we release updates and new products. Be prepared for some fun new features and products coming out this year.

Update 0.7-beta brings two major features and overall improvements to the application.

Gamepad improvements and rebinding/remapping support

This was one of our most requested features.
First things first, the software now automatically connects to your controller, you no longer need to select it every time you launch the Playback app. If you have remapped your controller in the past, it will apply your configuration automatically on launch now.
We also removed the "REFRESH" button on the gamepad configuration window, it now refreshes automatically, detecting controllers being disconnected or connected.
Basically, run the software, connect your controller and play. We tried making it as simple as possible.
In addition to this, we're using SDL_GameControllerDB to offer support for most popular controllers. We've started making open source contributions to this project in order to improve support not only for us, but also for other companies or game developers using this project.

Save vault and automatic backups

With this feature, whenever your save is read (either by starting the game or just downloading it to your computer) a copy is created and stored by the Playback app. Currently a maximum of 15 saves for each game is stored. In the future you will be able to configure how many backups you keep and access them easily from “Device settings”.
At the moment, we don't have an interface to manage these saves, but you can access them by following this tutorial.
This feature is especially useful in the case you accidentally overwrite a save or want to return to an early save you've made.

Other improvements:

  • Added support for 6 more flashcart types.
  • Added Rumble support (it is fully working, but disabled in this version). We decided to disable it until we create the Emulator settings window, where you will be able to control the intensity and disable or enable it.
  • Added emulation fast-forward support (same as rumble support, currently disabled). Will be activated in v0.8-beta.
  • Stability improvements to emulator (audio & video, should work even better on low-end computers, I couldn't find a computer that ran under 55fps).
  • Fixed update button not being clickable, forcing you to download the update from the website.
  • The installer now forces you to close the Playback app to avoid some issues that happened on Windows 7.
The update is currently being notarized by Apple and for Windows it's already rolling out. We've gained quite a lot of users so in order to avoid the servers being overloaded, we're slowly rolling it out today.

We have some cool features planned for the next version! You'll be able to do some really fun things with the GB Camera.
