System Settings

The System Settings section is where you can customize and refine your GB Operator’s behavior, ensuring a gaming session tailored to your exact desires. Here’s a detailed look into each available setting:

Preferred Language

Language forms the foundation of your user experience. Our Operator software offers a wide range of languages: English, Japanese, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Dutch, Korean, and Romanian. Once you select your language of choice, it will require an application restart to implement the changes throughout the platform. We aim for impeccable translations, but should you spot any discrepancies or believe a term could be better expressed, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our support team. We appreciate the collaborative spirit of our community!

NOTE: We’ve made the translation files for Playback available as open-source, providing an opportunity for anyone eager to contribute. If you're comfortable using GitHub and have experience with open-source projects, please visit our GitHub page at https://github.com/epilogue-co/playback-i18n to explore how you can help.

Autosave to Cartridge

Never fret about unsaved progress again! With the Autosave feature, every in-game save or any internal game save modification is instantly written onto the cartridge.

Fast-forward Speed Multiplier

The Fast-forward Speed Multiplier is a nifty tool for gamers who love to control the pace of their play. Whether you're eager to zoom through certain sections or want to slow things down for a more meticulous exploration, this feature has you covered. You have the freedom to speed up the game as high as x5.0 to speed through long dialogs or dial it back to a leisurely 0.25x to soak in every detail of the game. You can easily toggle the speed multiplier with a simple click of the fast-forward button found in the play mode overlay, granting you command over your gameplay tempo.

High Fidelity Mode

To relive the Game Boy experience in its full glory, High Fidelity Mode reproduces audio and video akin to the original hardware. Due to heightened CPU usage in this mode, users might notice a dip in frame rates, especially on older systems. If so, it's recommended to disable this mode.

Game Boy Model

Embark on a nostalgic journey by choosing to play with your desired Game Boy model. The emulator is designed to replicate various models, providing you with a customizable gaming experience that echoes the original consoles. If you’re unsure which model to choose, worry not - the 'Autodetect' function, intuitively selects the most suitable model for your current game. Do remember, after selecting your preferred model, it's essential to save your settings. For the changes to take effect, you’ll need to restart the Playback app, ensuring a seamless transition to your chosen Game Boy iteration.

Use BIOS File if Found

For avid enthusiasts and tinkerers, this feature allows the emulator to utilize a custom BIOS/bootloader when identified in the system directory, providing a uniquely tailored gaming experience. Whether it's to experiment with different boot sequences or use modified BIOS versions, this option bestows upon you the flexibility to explore beyond the traditional boundaries. Remember, ensuring a harmonious integration of your chosen BIOS will allow you to immerse yourself in a gaming experience that is as authentic or inventive as you desire. Here is our tutorial on How to Integrate a Custom BIOS.

Skip BIOS Intro

Dive straight into your gaming adventures with the “Skip BIOS Intro” feature. While the BIOS/bootloader animation can be a charming nod to the past, some gamers might prefer a swift start, especially after seeing it multiple times. This functionality is only applicable when the 'Use BIOS File if Found' option is active. After opting to skip the intro, be sure to save your settings. To finalize and enact this change, a restart of the Playback app is necessary.

The System Settings serve as your personal control panel, empowering you to forge a Playback experience that’s perfectly molded to your liking. As you navigate and tweak, remember that to implement some changes, saving your settings and restarting the application are necessary steps.
